Our Story

Professor Alex & Professor Kalil met in Abu Dhabi in 2013, where they worked together to coach the United Arab Emirates (UAE) National team.

Four years later, they decided to combine over 57 years of collective experience in practicing, coaching and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the world stage and take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the next level in Australia.

They came together and formed “Clube de Lutas”, in the heart of Seven Hills. Within 5 years, they have expanded to Rouse Hill and Northern Beaches (Forestville).

‘Clube de Lutas’ means ‘Fight Club’. As it suggests, Alex & Kalil want to build a club where different fighting and martial arts disciplines can exchange, train and grow together to reflect the origin and spirit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Both Prof. Alex and Prof. Kalil have a deeply held respect for the interconnectedness of all martial arts. They believe in the power of continuous learning and individual growth.

    They are also referees of the International and Australian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF and AFBJJ).

  • Yes. Our coaches have competed at national and international levels and bring real competitive insight to their teaching.

  • We pride ourselves in building a team of coaches who has earned a Black belt and Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu JItsu through many years of hard work and dedication on the mats.

    Our Judo coaches are Black belts, certified by Judo Australia.

  • It's one of our biggest strengths. Our coaches are known for being patient, encouraging and brilliant at breaking down techniques for people who have never trained before.

  • Yes. Our kids coaches are specifically experienced in teaching young people. They make classes fun, safe and age-appropriate.

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Muay Thai and Judo. You can join any of our classes depending on your goals and membership tier.

  • Yes, private coaching is available for Clube De Lutas members only. Contact us to arrange sessions with one of our coaches.
